In June 2004, CFIC staff completed a 12-city survey of faith-based social service organizations that sought to identify those that operate "earned income ventures." These
are for-profit initiatives that both advance the FBO's social mission
and contribute to its financial sustainability. Interviews were successfully
completed with 265 FBOs and we found that 37% are currently operating
such ventures. These include such types as fee for service (e.g., charging
for counseling services), selling products or services (such as lawn
care or auto repair), or leasing property. Click here to download the
survey report.
To facilitate networking among FBOs involved in earned-income ventures, and to
help connect FBOs that wish to learn more about launching their own ventures,
CFIC offers a searchable, on-line Directory of about 75 FBOs currently operating
earned-income ventures. To access the Directory, click
