During this 2002 project, CFIC identified, described, assessed, and analyzed several key faith-based intermediary organizations that were (a) building capacity within the faith community and (b) serving as bridge-builders in partnerships between local FBOs/congregations and government agencies. The project produced case studies of effective groups and hosted a conference of identified intermediaries aimed at creating a "peer learning network" among these vital organizations.
The principal publication from the project, Empowering Compassion: The Strategic
Role of Intermediary Organizations in Building Capacity Among and Enhancing the
Impact of Community Transformers, provides an in-depth look at the value
and role of faith-based intermediaries: who they are, what they do, and why it
matters.
